Pacific Daily News | For many people, a new haircut also comes with a new found sense of optimism.

The offices of Sens. Dwayne San Nicolas and Roy Quinata once again collaborated with the Guam Community College cosmetology students to provide free haircuts to more residents.

The senators’ office staff and the GCC cosmetology program continued the “Taking Hair and Combing Together for Relief” event on June 27 at the Hågat gym.

The free six-hour event provided 77 haircuts to residents in the area.

As the people of Guam have been in recovery from Typhoon Mawar for nearly six weeks now, the senators, their staff and other government officials have been working to help expedite the recovery process.

Sen. San Nicolas and Sen. Quinata’s staff helped out at the event by setting up and breaking down, providing meals and water for volunteers, cleaning hair and providing materials like chairs.

Beginning Tuesday, a federal holiday, the event will take a one-week break as GCC cosmetology students are only available on Tuesdays.

The next “Taking Hair and Combing Together for Relief” event will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 11 at the Yigo Gym. The last haircut of the day will begin at 2:30 p.m.

This event is scheduled to take place until Aug. 1 and will be hosted in Tamuning, Mangilao and another possible village. Event locations and dates will be announced once finalized.
